Pictures from London

The British capital is an exciting city to visit.

With its location along the River Thames London has been an important city since it was founded by the Romans two millennia ago under the name Londinium.

London’s original downtown, City of London, with an area of 2.9 km2, is England’s smallest city. From the late 1800’s London also been used on the city region which has developed around this center. This area represents the region London, as well as the administrative unit Greater London, led by the Mayor of London and London Assembly.

London is in modern times one of the most important political, economic and cultural centers. This is due to the fact that London was the capital of the British Empire, and thus for nearly three centuries center of power for much of the globe.

The city itself has about 8.2 million inhabitants (2012), but it is estimated that the entire metropolitan London commuter belt (London Metropolitan Area) is reached in about 15 millions. The city is considered the largest in the EU according to population.
